Möbius 59:11

Möbius was commissioned by The Blueridge International Chamber Music Festival and premiered in Vancouver, Canada on July 29, 2015. It was composed for variable instrumentation and duration and inspired, in part, by the aleatoric rhythms of wind-chimes.

This recorded version features unusual instrumental forces. Imagine a very large set of wind chimes (comprised of at least ten pianos, eight harps, twelve guitars, eight vibraphones, six glockenspiels, and six songbells) all hanging in the air and spinning slowly in the breeze.

The performers are coordinated by stopwatch and play melodic fragments that follow a harmonic structure spinning, every 60 seconds, through all of the 24 major and minor keys of the circle of fifths.
