From the Earth featuring Marianne Trudel - John Korsrud (2021)
I met Marianne Trudel and Mike Herriott in one of my treasured visits the the amazing Banff Centre for the Arts. Montreal composer/ pianist Marianne Trudel beautifully interpreted this piece about light and earth. Mike Herriott plays french horns, trombones, bass trombone, and flugelhorns.
Mariane Trudel - piano improvisation
Mike Herriott - french horns, flügelhorns, trombones, bass trombone
Ofra Hornoy - cello
Mixed by Eric Mosher
This record at times is the sum of its parts and the strength of its parts. At times, you can plainly tell the player from 100 yards away with your eyes closed, but then you can hear them echoing the ghosts of those who came before them. An incredibly brilliant record from 3 master blasters! pjnewman-364
Mary Halvorson is a genius composer and guitarist who has developed her own musical language, and with Code Girl she has incorporated poetry into that language. Incredible compositions and lyricism (each track is a different kind of poem). Halvorson's playing is as great as usual, and all the other members of the band sound great. Robert Wyatt's singing in particular works extremely well in the tracks he's featured. Highly, highly recommend. rat
Improvised in a single stunning take, the compositions on “Symphony No 1: Winter” are hypnotic and enveloping sheets of sound. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 9, 2023
