Constable and the Spirit of the Clouds
Starting in 2017 I began modeling my melodic composition on examples of linear variation I observed in the dozens of Cloud Studies by the English Romantic artist, John Constable (1776-1837.) In 2018 I completed a work for unaccompanied ‘cello titled Constable’s Clouds. Elizabeth Reid expressed an interest in the work, and suggested that it could be quite effective for viola, and especially so if there was a counterpoint of electronic sounds for the violist to play off and improvise with. In 2021 I adapted the original ‘cello score for viola and added an electronic track, composed using a similar process. Ms. Reid gave the World Premiere of the resulting work, Constable and the Spirit of the Clouds in an online event.

I have been entranced by Caroline Davis's music since the Wonderful Heart Tonic. Then the beautiful Anthems, followed by this swirling masterpiece. Also just picked up Live Work & Play. Caroline Davis is THE jazz musician to watch.
