Favour for electric viola and 2 delay systems
In 1980 the viola soloist Rivka Golani asked me to compose a work for her that would make use of amplified viola and audio delays. We decided that it would be best if all the electronic effects were operated by the viola soloist. I devised a network in which two separate delay systems could be controlled with volume pedals and were able to interact, thus creating complex textural results. Favour has become one of my most frequently performed works, despite the somewhat elaborate technical setup.

I have been entranced by Caroline Davis's music since the Wonderful Heart Tonic. Then the beautiful Anthems, followed by this swirling masterpiece. Also just picked up Live Work & Play. Caroline Davis is THE jazz musician to watch.
